Piezoelectric and ultrasound simulation is a truly multiphysics problem, as it involves acoustics, electromagnetics and mechanics.
In the Medtech, the piezoceramics materials are used to make probes in medical devices that will generate and transmit vibrations and ultrasounds.
Diagnostic and imaging tools take advantage of ultrasounds technology. But there exist other tools involving high-power ultrasounds that will create heat for ablation of tumours or other diseases.
Other industries also use them for several applications, like the nondestructive testing (NDT) of metallic parts, sensing systems for flowmeters, or even some motors and actuators with the help of piezoelectric materials.
EMC3 Consulting will present at 2 events about piezoelectric and ultrasound simulation in 2019.
Webinar on piezoelectric and ultrasound simulation for HIFU medical devices
EMC3 Consulting is going to present and share experience of the simulation of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for medical devices on an upcoming webinar .
Simulating the acoustics and heat transfer phenomena involved in such tools allows engineers and researchers to select the combination of parameters that will deliver the right amount of energy in the targeted zone and limit the damage to the surrounding healthy tissues.
Here are details of the webinar if you would like to register to watch it:
- Date: Thursday 21st of March 2019
- Time: 2.00 PM Eastern Daylight Time (6.00 PM UTC)
- Speakers: Thomas Clavet, EMC3 Consulting, and James Gaffney, COMSOL
- Organised by INFORMA for Electronic Design

Technical seminar on modelling and simulation of ceramics materials
EMC3 Consulting will make a presentation about the modelling and simulation of piezoelectric materials and generation of ultrasounds, during the technical seminar organised by French cluster Cerameurop (Pôle Européen de la Céramique).
Several industrial actors will participate to this event, from biomedical, sensors, energies, transport to name a few ones.
It will be held in Toulouse on the 22nd of October 2019 and it is possible to register on Cerameurop’s website.
COMSOL training on piezoelectric and ultrasound simulation
Besides its consulting activities for industrials, and the participation to seminar or webinar events, EMC3 Consulting also offer regular training courses on COMSOL Multiphysics.
These courses can be tailored to the specific topic of piezoelectric and ultrasound simulation with COMSOL, so please be in touch if you are interested in such course.
